Paper Airplanes – a poem

The sender is unaware of the receiver

his flakey messages are carelessly written,

sent aimlessly through the air like paper airplanes,

a mean unnatural and disconnected

for such powerful images.

These messages burrow and corrupt

dry, tired minds, unaware of this

one-way interaction with the unknown.

I thought I should probably explain a bit about my connotation and reason for writing this poem. It comes from the idea (and true fact) that as soon as we expose ourselves to the world, we are constantly bombarded by a plethora of ideas, opinions and images. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but it happens so much that we become oblivious to it and negative things aren’t recognized (such as negative body images). The thing is, the only way to fix this problem is to be aware of it.

I thought it also worth saying that the main platforms I had in mind while saying this was primarily the internet, which is the most common place that I find “the sender is unaware of the receiver” and “dry, tired minds…”.
